Shed Delivery Guide: What to Know Before Arrival

Preparing for Your Shed Delivery

A smooth delivery and installation starts with good preparation. Here’s what you need to know.

A properly prepared site is crucial for a successful shed installation and the longevity of your building.

  • Level Ground: Your site must be level. Most installations require the ground to be no more than 3-4 inches off-level across the footprint of the shed. Significant slopes may require excavation or a different foundation type.
  • Clear Area: Ensure the installation area is clear of debris, rocks, tree stumps, vegetation, and any other obstructions.
  • Sufficient Space: Allow at least 2-3 feet of clear space around all sides of where the shed will be placed for the installation crew to work safely and efficiently.
  • Underground Utilities: If you're unsure about underground lines (gas, electric, water, septic), contact your local utility locating service (e.g., call 811) before any ground preparation.

It is typically the customer's responsibility to understand and comply with all local building codes, zoning ordinances, and Homeowners Association (HOA) requirements.

  • Check Local Codes: Contact your city or county planning/zoning department to determine if a permit is required for your shed size and type.
  • HOA Approval: If you live in a community with an HOA, review your covenants and obtain any necessary approvals prior to ordering your shed.
  • Setbacks: Be aware of any property line setback requirements.

Ascential Buildings can often provide standard engineered drawings for your shed to assist with permit applications if required.

The type of foundation needed can depend on your shed's size, your local requirements, and the ground conditions. Common options include:

  • Gravel Pad: A popular choice, providing good drainage and a stable base. Typically 4-6 inches deep and extending 1-2 feet beyond the shed dimensions.
  • Concrete Slab: Offers the most permanent and robust foundation, ideal for larger sheds, garages, or workshops.
  • Concrete Blocks/Piers: May be suitable for smaller sheds in some areas, but ensure they meet local codes and provide adequate support.

Please discuss foundation requirements with your Ascential Buildings specialist. Typically, the customer is responsible for ensuring a proper foundation is in place before delivery, unless otherwise specified in your agreement.

Our delivery team needs clear and safe access to your installation site.

  • Path for Truck & Trailer: Ensure the route to your site can accommodate our delivery truck and trailer (typically requiring around 12-14 feet of width and 14 feet of vertical clearance).
  • Overhead Obstructions: Check for low-hanging tree branches, power lines, or eaves along the delivery path and at the installation site.
  • Gate Openings: If access is through a gate, ensure it's wide enough for the shed or delivery equipment.
  • Ground Conditions: Inform us of any soft ground, steep slopes, or tight turns that might affect delivery. Wet or muddy conditions can cause delays.
  • Mark the Spot: Clearly mark the four corners where you want your shed placed.

  • Be Present: It's highly recommended that you or an authorized adult representative be present during delivery and installation to confirm placement and answer any questions.
  • Final Site Check: Walk the site with the delivery crew leader to confirm the exact placement and address any last-minute concerns.
  • Safety First: For safety reasons, please keep children and pets away from the work area during installation.
  • Communication: Our team will communicate with you regarding their estimated arrival time and any specific needs.

Please clarify payment terms with your Ascential Buildings representative before delivery.

  • If a final balance is due upon completion, be prepared to make that payment to the delivery crew as per your agreement.
  • You may be asked to sign a certificate of completion or other final paperwork.

  • Initial Inspection: Once the crew has finished, take a few moments to inspect your new shed with them to ensure everything meets your satisfaction.
  • Care & Maintenance: Ask the crew if there are any immediate care instructions or refer to documentation provided by Ascential Buildings.
  • Questions or Issues: If you have any questions or notice any issues after the crew leaves, please contact Ascential Buildings customer service promptly.

Proper preparation ensures a smooth and efficient delivery and installation of your new Ascential Building.
